I’m Juli & I want to share the AMAZING journey I had getting me from a struggling teen with weight issues and distorted ideas about myself to who I am today. Let me explain, as a teen, I was obese and didn’t really fit in, so I felt unloved. Yep, I realize that a lot of people experience this. I eventually became tired of feeling this way, but I REALLY enjoyed music and dancing because it provided an escape from how I felt. So, at age 15, I began taking dance lessons which blossomed into a decade long adventure that brought me to Recreational Therapy and eventually birthing Restore4Life.
Counselor Corpus Christi Texas believes Abba~YHWY didn’t make ANY mistakes when He made you or me. By that, I mean Abba~YHWH created the human body to self heal. Yep, I said it! We are designed to self heal. The problems arise when “life happens” and the spirit, the soul, and the body misalign. Abba~YHWH wants every person to live abundantly in health, restoration, and joy.
YES, you were made to have a vibrant, joy filled, and prosperous life where you thrive abundantly. Unfortunately that is not the reality for many people; instead, you struggle just to “keep your head above water” with health, stress levels, relationships, finances, and your purpose for life. That reality was never the intention for you. I have been where you find yourself today. That’s why Restore4Life was created … to journey alongside you so you can live the way Abba~YHWH destined for you … life in abundance.
RECREATIONAL THERAPY …
“So it’s like basket weaving and shooting hoops, right?” “Sure, maybe, not really, and perhaps” is the typical way this conversation goes whenever I talk about this incredible therapy. Recreational Therapy provides a holistic approach to recovery whenever a person experiences an injury, an illness, and or a life changing event. Sometimes these experiences are temporary and very unexpected while others are permanent and life changing. Either way, Recreational Therapy believes all parts of a person can and will be affected by “life happening” and that is why counselor Corpus Christi Texas approach to recovery encompasses all those domains. I often say, Restore4Life is “covert therapy”, like the special forces in our military; you don’t always realize you are getting therapy because you are having fun and it doesn’t feel like therapy.
EDUCATION & CLINICAL EXPERIENCE …
Wow, how time flies! It has already been twenty-six years since I graduated from The University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton, Texas as a Recreational Therapist in May 2000. I initially started my career with a Bachelor’s of Art (BA) in Cultural Anthropology with a minor emphasis in History in May of 1995.
I took the summer off to discern what I actually wanted to do with this degree and decided to return to school to pursue a focus more aligned with alternative therapies, counseling, and recovery. Soon it became apparent that counselor Corpus Christi Texas was the route for me. I returned to the University of North Texas in the fall of 1995 under the School of Education and began my Master of Science (MS) degree in Recreational Therapy with a minor emphasis in Criminal Justice and achieved my MS in Recreational Therapy in May of 2000, and thus, the incredible journey began.
Over the decades, counselor Corpus Christi Texas had the opportunity working with children all the way to grandmas & grandpas and every age group in between. I’ve provided Recreational Therapy in traditional clinical settings like hospitals, nursing homes, & memory care facilities, as well as, more nontraditional settings like independent living, home health, & community based programming.
As the years continued counselor Corpus Christi Texas began studying more about the connections between the mind, the body, and the spirit and how each correlates and affects the other positively or negatively all the way to the cellular and quantum levels. What was revealed is that those interactions apply to all creation and nature. This might be the time to take a deep breath because that “goofy” hippie nature loving person we all know, was correct.
This journey of knowledge opened the forgotten and hidden truths regarding how people centuries ago lived and maintained their spiritual health, their soul health, and their body health. You know, those “ancient” and “old fashioned” ways of living and healing our grandparents talked about: “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Well, that wasn’t just granny being granny or that “crazy” hippie who hugs trees; there is actual profound quantifiable and scientific proof of the truth of that statement. Deciphering and incorporating natural and sometimes “questionable” therapeutic interventions birthed a passion for alternative healing and restoration not just for humanity, but for all of Abba~YHWH’s creation which eventually evolved to create Restore4Life.
My career initially began in July 2000 in an acute psychiatric inpatient hospital with a subacute physical medicine and rehabilitation unit, then nineteen years later on October 4, 2019 Restore4Life was conceived, and I opened my own clinic.
